Introducing Pharia-1-LLM: Capable and compliant for critical applications 

As part of the PhariaAI product suite, Aleph Alpha introduces two 7B foundation models, Pharia-1-LLM-7B-control and Pharia-1-LLM-7B-control-aligned, that represent a significant advancement from its former Luminous model family and the latest addition to the LLM portfolio. Pharia-1-LLM-7B-control can be flexibly adapted to user preferences, making it suitable for critical applications without the risk of shutdown behavior, while Pharia-1-LLM-7B-control-aligned comes with additional safety guardrails. The foundation models, trained from scratch on seven languages – particularly optimized for English, German, French and Spanish – are tailored towards concise responses and stand on par with the latest open-source models in the 7B to 8B parameter range. 

Moreover, both model variants have been trained in full compliance with applicable EU and national regulations, including copyright and data privacy laws. Pharia-1-LLM-7B is therefore well-suited for applications in large organizations such as enterprises or public institutions. 

Advancing Global AI Research: Publication of the training code base 

Aleph Alpha Research is one of the world’s first AI abs to openly publish their code base used for model training. “With the release of the Pharia-1-LLM models, Aleph Alpha Research delivers on its’ commitment to open research,” said Dr. Yasser Jadidi, Chief Research Officer of Aleph Alpha Research. “Both the model weights as well as the entire code base used to train the models have been made public for non-commercial open research and education.
