Transparency as One Pillar of Sovereign AI: We Signed the Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-generated Content

We signed the Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-generated Content. Already last year, we signed the EU’s General-Purpose AI Code of Practice.

Some see it as “regulatory complexity.” However, we as Aleph Alpha signed the EU Code of Practice on Transparency, because putting digital watermarks and clear provenance on AI-generated content isn’t a bureaucratic punishment. Why? We see it as basic tech hygiene. If you’re building sovereign AI for critical enterprises and public institutions, transparency shouldn’t be something you hide in a footnoted legal hub; it should be front and center.

For Europe, this signature is proof that innovation and accountability aren’t mutually exclusive. Setting a global benchmark for mandatory machine-readable provenance gives European AI its strongest selling point: trust. While the rest of the world debates whether content is real or fake, Europe is building an ecosystem where digital authenticity is baked right into the code. In AI, Europe’s opportunities are not by cutting corners, but by setting the standard.

For Aleph Alpha, signing the Code simply puts our official seal on what we’ve championed from day one: explainable, sovereign, and responsible AI. Doing the right thing isn’t a legal tax you pay under duress; it’s a feature that makes your technology fundamentally better and reliable. We’re proud to pave the high road for European AI leadership with clear provenance, zero legal hand-wringing, and enough transparency that you’ll always know who’s behind the model. (Spoiler: It’s still us.)
